The Leica E46 UV/IR filter is designed to block all ultraviolet and infrared light. The most common application for this filter is with digital cameras, such as the Leica M8, whose sensors have extended UV and IR sensitivity. UV and IR cut filters help reduce exposure in the ultraviolet and infrared ranges and deliver more accurate colors. These filters can be useful with film cameras as well, especially when used in conjunction with strong ND filters which can sometimes not block UV or IR light as effectively as they block visible light. Many films have extended UV sensitivity and some films have extended IR sensitivity which this filter can help eliminate.
This filter is an E46 size and has a 46mm filter thread.
